How the Process Works
Every engagement starts with a document review. You send or bring your W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, prior-year returns, and any IRS or state notices. We review everything before quoting a price, so you know the cost before work begins. Returns are prepared in professional tax software, reviewed for accuracy, and e-filed or paper-filed depending on the situation. You receive a copy of every return filed, along with a summary of key figures and any estimated tax obligations going forward.
What Documents You Need
For individuals: W-2s, 1099s (all types), prior-year federal and state returns, Social Security numbers or ITINs for all household members, 1095-A if you had marketplace insurance, closing statements for any real estate transactions, and receipts or records for deductible expenses. For businesses: profit and loss statement or bookkeeping records, asset purchase documentation, prior-year business returns, and any K-1s issued or received.
IRS and State Notice Response
If you received a notice from the IRS or the Florida Department of Revenue, we review the notice, identify what the agency is requesting, and prepare the appropriate response. Common situations include CP2000 income discrepancies, balance-due notices, identity verification letters, and return correction requests. We prepare the response documents and walk you through what to send and where.
Back-Year and Amended Returns
If you have unfiled returns from previous years, we prepare them using the records available. Back filings are common for self-employed individuals, people with foreign income, and businesses that fell behind during transitions. Amended returns (Form 1040-X) are prepared when a previously filed return contains an error or when additional information becomes available after filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I expect my return to be done? Most individual returns are completed within five to ten business days after we receive all documents. Business returns and multi-entity filings may take longer depending on complexity. Clients who use our monthly bookkeeping service typically have faster turnaround because the records are already organized.
Do I need to come in person? Not necessarily. Many clients send documents electronically and review the return remotely. In-person appointments are available throughout our service area for clients who prefer that.
Related Services
We also provide monthly bookkeeping and QuickBooks support and payroll processing and tax filing services as standalone services. Many tax clients add bookkeeping or payroll to keep their records organized year-round, which also makes tax season faster and less expensive.
Service boundary: Tax preparation does not include audit representation or legal representation before any agency unless separately authorized in writing and permitted by law.
